This blog initially set out to focus primarily on Islam and the Islamisation of the UK. However, since that time the subjects covered have broadened. They now include (amongst other things): IQ tests, Jean Baudrillard, global warming, sociobiology, Marxism, Trotskyism, David Cameron, Foucault, Nazism, Ralph Miliband, economics, statistics and so on. - Paul Austin Murphy

Israeli 'Ethnic Cleansing'?

Since the West Bank has settlements which only constitute around 2% of the entire area, it is hard to make sense of the soundbite ‘ethnic cleansing’.

Similarly, if the Israelis have been ethnically cleansing Arab Palestinians since 1947/8, then they haven’t really done a good job of it. In Gaza, for example, there has been a massive increase in the number of Palestinians in that area.

If we take the period 1950 to 2007, the population rose from ...240,000 (in 1950) to almost 1.5 million (in 2007). More generally, and if we go back to 1948, we can say that the Palestinian Arab population has increased from just over a million to over six million today. That constitutes a doubling in size with each new generation.

More interestingly, that huge increase in population in the disputed territories was largely thanks to the Israelis. When Israel took over the administration of the West Bank and Gaza in 1967, as a result of a defencive war against the surrounding Arab states, the average lifespan of a Palestinian was 48 years. The infant morality rate approached 100 per 1,000 live births. But because of the Israeli administration, which provided clean drinking water and an increase in literacy for Palestinians, by 2008 Palestinians were living an average of 72 years - that is 24 years older than the rate in 1967. Similarly, infant mortality had dropped to 23 per 1,000, compared to the previous 100 per 1,000 in 1967. If this is a case of ethnic cleansing, then it was ethnic cleansing as carried out in a Lewis Carroll world.

[image above: if Israel has been ethnically cleansing for 60 years, they ain't done a good job of it. The Palestinian/Arab populations of the West Bank and Gaza have increased dramatically in 60 years. Indeed, Israel itself homes over a million Arabs who haven't been even remotely 'cleansed'. So, 'ethnic cleansing' is a soundbite word-weapon used by Palestinians and leftists to achieve certain ideological political goals.]
